Adapting for GFX with a Twist!

The Lensbaby Twist 60 is a 60mm f/2.5 optic designed specifically to mimic the swirly bokeh of older vintage lenses. Swirly bokeh is a type of bokeh that swirls at the edges of a lens's frame, often found in older lenses with quirky/unique optics. Sought after by many artistic portrait photographers, lenses with swirly bokeh help frame a subject by softening the edges of a frame, and can add a vintage, dream-like look to photos and videos.

The Lensbaby Twist 60 is designed for full frame DSLR and mirrorless cameras. But what if we adapted it to a Fujifilm GFX digital medium format camera? Would we be able to capture even more of the swirly bokeh on a larger medium format digital sensor? The short answer is, yes!

We adapted this Twist 60 Canon EF mount lens to a Fujifilm GFX 50S with our Fotodiox Canon EF to GFX adapter. Because the lens is fully manual, we won't need any electronic control between the lens and camera, so we can use a manual adapter.

As you can see, we're capturing a whole lot of swirly bokeh on the Fujifilm GFX 50S's 43.8 x 32.9mm digital medium format sensor. We're also getting some vignetting in the corners. This is because the lens was never intended to be used on a sensor larger than full frame. But this vignette isn't too extreme, and when focussing on close up subjects, it becomes much less noticeable.

After some testing, we're confident in recommending the Lensbaby Twist 60 to medium format digital photographers, especially if you're interested in capturing that swirly bokeh vintage lens look. Just grab a Fotodiox adapter and have some fun!
