Getting Triangular with C-mount Lens Bokeh

This Computar 50mm f/1.3 TV Lens is a vintage C-mount lens designed for early video cameras and 16mm motion picture cameras. It's lightweight and fast, perfect for video or photo productions when you want a compact setup. Because it's designed for a 16mm sized film or video sensor, it will vignette slightly on an APS-C sensor and majorly on a full frame sensor. This vignette can be cropped out in post or used as an in-camera effect.

The Computar 50mm f/1.3 has a triangular aperture, which can give your images and videos some uniquely shaped bokeh if used correctly. Let's adapt this little vintage lens to a Fujifilm X-mount camera with our Fotodiox C-mount to Fujifilm X adapter, then capture some bokeh photos.

When the Computar 50mm is set to it's widest aperture, the bokeh has a fairly standard circular look to it, but when we stop the lens's aperture down to f/2.8 or f/4, any small points of light thrown out of focus will now become triangular shaped.

It's a weird look, but it does have a fun lo-fi charm to it. When you adapt old cinema C-mount lenses like this Computar to modern cameras, you never quite know what you're going to get. It's part of the fun of experimenting with obscure vintage glass and Fotodiox lens adapters. Sometimes you'll find a pairing that gives your images and videos a look you've never experienced before.
