RhinoCam Vertex for Pentax

Many Pentax camera and lens collectors have more than one Pentax camera system, which is why we thought it would be a good idea to make a Pentax 67 to Pentax K RhinoCam Vertex adapter. This adapter lets you use Pentax 67 medium format lenses with Pentax K full frame cameras.

The RhinoCam Vertex is a stitching adapter. After locking the adapter down on a tripod and setting up your shot, the RhinoCam lets you rotate the sensor of your full frame Pentax K camera around the center, or "vertex", of a medium format Pentax 67 lens. This stops at four indicated points and captures four images. You then stitch these four images together in post with photo stitching software to create a square, 6x6-style image that covers more of the image circle of the lens. For these photo stitches, we used Photoshop's Photomerge function.

The RhinoCam Vertex won't capture the full 6x7 medium format frame like a 6x7 camera will, but it does capture much more of a Pentax 67 lens's real estate than a standard adapter. Capturing more of the image circle means you get an image closer to a medium format lens look, plus you get the extra resolution of four stitched full frame photos, close to 9350x9350 pixels with a Pentax K-1 Mark II.

For these stitched images we used a full frame Pentax K-1 Mark II and a Pentax 105mm F/2.4 SMC lens. Shooting wide open at f/2.4 meant we got a softer image with some color fringing, but it also meant we got the maximum amount of shallow focus, perfect for capturing a bit of that medium format film camera vibe.
