Products We Love: Light Modifiers

It's February 2025 and all month long we'll be highlighting the products we love! Subscribe to our newsletter to get fresh reads on this topic.

Light modifiers are pieces of equipment that alter the characteristics of a lighting fixture. These include umbrellas, softboxes, reflectors, and much more. Despite there being different types of light modifiers most offer a similar look. There are a couple of light modifiers that do more than the traditional softbox or umbrella. One of them is our latest addition to our EZ-Pro DLX series, the EZ-Pro DLX Parabolic Focusing Softbox. Here is why we love it!

The EZ-Pro DLX Parabolic Focusing Softbox offers you soft and hard lighting depending on where you position the light. The 'focusing' aspect of this softbox is done through the center rod: pulling the light into the modifier will give you harsh, direct light. The opposite happens when you push the rod away from the softbox; the light will spread at a wider beam angle and give you softer light. The center rod has a scale ( measured in centimeters) to help you reference your favorite positions.

These light modifiers come in three sizes: 48”, 56”, and 72”. They are the perfect sizes for your work, from headshots all the way up to group shots.

We also love this modifier because it's made for the studio. It is a statement piece with utility! In a photo session with our brand ambassador Tyler McAuley, we used our 72” version with the center rod at 15cm to get a harsh fill light. This was done to complement the direct sun filling the entire studio.

Tyler was able to a balanced exposure by using the DLX Parabolic Focusing Softbox to contain and shape the light coming out of the Profoto D3 head. The subtle fill coming front
