XPan on a Budget

In the age of full-frame mirrorless cameras, they are slowly being upended by the mass market release of digital medium format. Fujifilm has absolutely changed the game with the GFX system. You no longer have to take out a loan on your house to afford a digital medium format camera when you can buy the original GFX 50s for less than $2,000.

The Fujifilm GFX is by far the best system to adapt to because of the multiple aspect ratios available. One that stands out the most is the 65:24 aspect ratio which is essentially '“X-Pan Mode”. If you're a fan of the Hasselblad X-Pan or the Fujifilm TX system, you know what a hassle the system is. Prices for the body alone are between $2,000 to $4,000! These cameras are also prone to failure and the repairs are just as costly.

The best alternative is a used Fujifilm GFX body, film simulations, and our GFX lens adapters. Depending on your current inventory of gear, chances are that we have an adapter for your lens to work on a GFX camera. The average Fotodiox PRO lens adapter for GFX will cost around $180.

The X-Pan format is not for everyone, and neither is this recommendation. This is simply a recommendation that was developed through experience and feedback. Even Fujifilm themselves understand this demand since they incorporated the 65:24 aspect ratio in their latest point-and-shout, the GFX100F. Is this something you'd try out?
